HPF and other filters
i'm starting to get a little bit frustrated, i'm modeling a subwoofer for my car, and i wanted to put a HPF so i know the excursion and stuff like that, but when i put in the hpf, the graph goes all wonky
edit: i think i discovered why, and thats because i'm adding a passive crossover in, is there a way to add a crossover that does not mess with impedances of the woofer like ones in a amplifier?
Yes, I think you found the reason. The crossover section in Speaker Box Lite currently simulates a passive crossover, so its components become part of the electrical circuit and therefore affect the total impedance seen by the amplifier. This is expected behavior for a passive filter.
What you’re looking for is an active/DSP filter, like the HPF built into a car amplifier. Such a filter modifies the signal before the power amplifier, so it should affect the frequency response, cone excursion, etc., without adding the crossover components to the speaker’s impedance.
At the moment, passive crossovers shouldn’t be used to simulate an amplifier’s HPF. Adding separate active/DSP filters to the simulation would be the proper solution, and it’s a good feature request.
Please! That feature would be amazing, since it really change the decisions we make based on how the HPF and LPF affects the aspects of the project. Like the Group Delay of a design, that can be very much affected by a subsonic HPF! I'm just struggling with this right now! lol
